Impulse Control and Conduct Disorders
Impulse control and conduct disorders are most common in children. They typically present with defiance, explosive energy, and aggression towards people or property. This conduct is more severe and longer-lasting than the typical short-lived episodes most kids display and can cause significant problems. Treatment can occur in the form of individual, group, or family therapy. It’s most effective when parents are involved so they can learn how to manage the behaviors of concern.

Depressive Disorders
Depressive disorders occur when a persistent low mood interferes with a person’s ability to function normally. Symptoms can include feeling sad, withdrawing from social circles, feeling irritable or restless, disrupted sleep patterns, disrupted appetite, unexplained physical aches and pains, impaired cognitive function, feeling worthless, and considering self-harm. There are many different causes. Depressive disorders are highly treatable with medication and therapy.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
People with OCD suffer from repetitive unwanted and intrusive thoughts, images, or urges. These obsessions tend to cause high levels of distress, discomfort, and anxiety for the person. It is common for people suffering from OCD to engage in compulsive acts or “rituals” to reduce the distress and guilt associated with their obsessions for a brief period; however, those rituals ultimately perpetuate the person’s anxiety as well. Compulsions may be overt (outwardly visible) behaviors, or they may be covert mental rituals such as counting, replacing a “bad” thought with a “good” thought, praying in a certain manner, or mentally reviewing their recent actions to make sure they have not done anything “wrong.” Individuals with OCD often describe feeling as if they have little to no control over these thoughts and behaviors.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD occurs in people who have experienced a traumatic event. That includes events such as war, sexual assault, natural disasters, terrorist acts, serious accidents, and witnessing something terrible. However, that is not a complete list. PTSD can affect anyone at any stage of their life. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, sadness, fear, anger, detachment, aversion, irritability, mood swings, and strong emotional reactions. It can be treated effectively with professional assistance.
Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse is any form of sexual violence, including rape, child molestation, incest, and similar forms of non-consensual sexual contact. Most sexual abuse experts agree sexual abuse is never only about sex. Instead, it is often an attempt to gain power over others. Therapy can be helpful for those who experienced sexual abuse in the past. It is often not about the actual details of the occurrence, but more about the context in which the event(s) finds itself.

Sexual Issues
The aim of psychosexual therapy is to help you improve the physical intimacy between you and your partner and overcome or manage any sexual difficulties you are having. Whatever your gender, sexual orientation or relationship status, sex therapy can support you to feel more comfortable about getting intimate. Difficulties include lack of sexual desire, painful sex, erectile dysfunction, and orgasm problems.
Couples
Couples therapy is a form of psychotherapy that can help you and your partner improve your relationship. If you are having relationship difficulties, this approach will help you to rebuild your relationship. Issues typically include recurring conflicts, feelings of disconnection, an affair, issues related to sex, or difficulties due to external stressors like finances or illness.

Anxiety
People with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks). Examples of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobias and separation anxiety disorder.
LGBTQI+
Psychotherapy is supportive in that the focus is on the difficulties a person experiences in their life because of their sexual/gender orientation. Being affirmative means I treat couples, families, and individuals across the orientation and identity spectrum with the respect they deserve. The goal is to help you work with sexuality or gender conflict that undermines the affirmation of an authentic self-identity. I do not support conversion therapy.
